American Foxhound
The American Foxhound lived on the American continent before it became known as the United States of America. Many settlers brought these handsome hounds with them when they emigrated. George Washington was a great fancier and kept a famous pack at Mount Vernon, including some imports from France. The American Foxhound was developed to chase fox, coyote and deer. While mainly a pack hound, it also found work as a lone hunter, turned loose to hunt a fox by itself or to work in small packs, particularly in the mountains of Tennessee and Kentucky.
