Borzoi
The Borzoi, known here prior to 1936 as
the Russian Wolfhound, is a sight hound dependent on his extreme speed, agility,
and courage to pursue, overtake and hold the quarry. With a history
clouded by the misty past of Czarist Russia, we know that these dogs were bred
by the Russian aristocracy for hundreds of years. In fact, the great rural
estates encompassing thousands of acres with hundreds of serfs, were given over
to the breeding, training and hunting of Borzois. The Borzoi today remains largely unchanged from his Russian ancestors, both in terms of his appearance, gentle nature and his abilities.
