Otterhound
The hunting of otter never was a major sport in England, but it appears to have existed from very early times. It first was practiced because the otters were preying on the fish in the rivers and streams to an annoying extent. Later, it enjoyed a considerable vogue because it was the only kind of hunting allowed from April to September. The Otter Hound is a large dog with a hard, crisp close coat of an oily nature that can stand any amount of immersion in water. It is without peer as a swimmer, its progress through the water being aided greatly by its webbed feet.
