Saluki
The Saluki, the royal dog of Egypt, is another of the hounds to make a claim as the oldest known breed of domesticated dog. Held in high esteem, the Saluki was the only dog allowed to sleep on the carpet of the Sheikh's tent. Further evidence of this esteem came in death, as the Saluki's body was often mummified and laid to rest along with the Pharaohs. The whole appearance of the breed should give an impression of grace and symmetry. His great speed, eyesight, endurance, and strength give him the ability to bring down and kill quarry such as gazelle and hare.
