Whippet

The Whippet, a Greyhound in miniature, is a sporting dog of the first flight as well as being a very charming, affectionate and intelligent pet.  He is the fastest domesticated animal of his weight, capable of speeds up to 35 mph.  Though his forte is racing, he is a rabbit courser of great ability.  It is said that when such barbaric pastimes as bull baiting, bear baiting, and dog fighting began to lose favor, the sporting gentry of that period originated the Whippet for the milder entertainment of coursing rabbits in an enclosure. 

As an animal of beauty, grace of outline, and smoothness of action, he stands near the top of the realm of dogdom.
